Record Set at EE Ranches Sale

The inaugural EE Ranches of Texas Breeders Production Sale, on September 10, saw a record price of $390,000 paid for a cutting horse yearling. Sixty-one horses changed hands at the new EE Ranches breeding facilities in Whitesboro, Texas, for an average price of $25,706.

The top seller, at $390,000, was Catalaney, a yearling full sister to NCHA Derby champion Cat Ichi. She was offered by EE Ranches and purchased by Stan Thomas of Three Trees Ranch, Newman, Georgia. The price broke the previous yearling record of $380,000, for Big Time Pepto, during the 2002 NCHA Futurity Sales. Western Bloodstock managed both sales.

Catalaney is by High Brow Cat out of $1.2 million producer Laney Doc. “The ‘Cats’ are very hot and they’ve done a great job,” said Stan Thomas, a real estate developer who previously owned halter and pleasure horses, including AQHA World Champion and leading sire Mr Sonny Money. “Laney Doc has been so consistent with a lot of different studs and hopefully that has been passed on to this filly.”

The second highest selling yearling was the Dual Rey daughter Rockin Rollin Rey, at $50,000. She was consigned by Carol Dewrell, Fort Walton, Florida, and purchased by Lonnie & Barbara Allsup, Clovis, New Mexico.

The top broodmare, at $125,000, was seven-year-old Shootin Poo, by Doc’s Hickory, consigned by Gail Holmes, Double Dove Ranch, Longmont, Colorado.  Shootin Poo, the earner of $42,527, is a three-quarter sister to NCHA Horse of the Year Hicapoo. She sold bred to Peptoboonsmal and with a paid, 2005 booking to Dual Rey, who stands at EE Ranches. Marshall Chesrown, of Black Rock Ranch, Harrison, Idaho, was the buyer.

Lonnie & Barbara Allsup purchased the 11-year-old broodmare Most Unique for $90,000. Consigned by Gary & Alycia Bellenfant of DeLeon, Texas, Most Unique, by Haidas Little Pep, is the earner of $65,826 and a full sister to the dam of Sallie B Badge ($78,372) and Sallies Badge ($34,014). Most Unique’s first foal, Unique Badgette, was a semi-finalist in the 2003 NCHA Futurity. She sold bred to Dual Rey for a 2005 foal.

The top selling show horse, at $47,000, was Goran, consigned by EE Ranches, and purchased by S. David Plummer, Fruit Heights, Utah. Goran, a seven-year-old gelded son of Bob Acre Doc out of Laney Doc, is the earner of $125,188 and a full brother to Four Acres ($252,482) and Laker Doc ($183,479).
