Justaswinging Peanut was the sale topper at $385,000 during the 2004 NCHA Summer Spectacular Sale.  Consigned by Dean Sanders of Anderson, TX, the NCHA Horse of the Year Producer was purchased by David Plummer of Fruit Heights, UT.


Trickalenas Choice broke an all-time record for a 3-year-old cutting horse in-training at $200,000, during the 2004 NCHA Summer Spectacular Sale.  Daniel Keene of Tampa, FL purchased the stallion from Charles Crawley of Unadilla, GA.

Futurity in July: NCHA Summer Spectacular Sales

     The NCHA Summer Spectacular Sale staked its claim as one of the cutting industry’s premiere auctions. Held at Will Rogers Equestrian Center in Fort Worth, Texas, July 24 and 25, during the NCHA Derby and Classic, the sales broke records for all sales averages in 2004, including the 2003 NCHA Futurity Sales.

     “It was a fantastic sale,” said Ben Emison of Western Bloodstock, the company that produces and manages all of the NCHA sales in Fort Worth. “I think people have finally recognized what a great opportunity this mid-year sale offers both buyers and sellers.”

     Net sales on 223 head averaged $18,492.  The top 10 selling horses averaged $152,400, while the top 100 averaged $34,508.

     The sale topper, at $385,000, was Dean Sanders’ consignment, Justaswinging Peanut, who sold to David Plummer of Fruit Heights, UT.  The 12-year-old daughter of Justa Swinging Peppy, is the dam of NCHA Horse of the Year Justa Smart Peanut ($421,041) and sold in foal for 2005 to Smart Little Lena.  Plummer, who purchased a total of six lots, also owns some of the Thoroughbred industry’s leading producers.

     “The buyers were former customers, but mostly new names and faces from all over the country,” said Western Bloodstock’s Jim Ware. “Its great to see so many new people becoming involved with cutting”

     An all-time record price for a 3-year-old at auction was attained when Trickalenas Choice, consigned by Charles Crawley, sold for $200,000 to Daniel Keene of Tampa, FL. The sorrel son of SR Instant Choice was in training with Crawley and eligible for this years NCHA Futurity.

     Haida Ho, a 15-year-old daughter of Haidas Little Pep consigned by Sunrise Ranch, brought $200,000 from Gail Holmes of Longmont, CO. Haida Ho, the dam of major limited event finalist Haidas CD, sold with a filly at side by High Brow Cat and in foal to Peptoboonsmal.

     Tassa Mia, purchased for $175,000 by Wagonhound Ranch of Douglas, WY, was consigned by Chester Brittain. The 18-year-old daughter of Peppy San Badger has produced earners of more than $500,000 and sold with a foal at side by Playgun and bred back to Playgun for 2005.

     Tassa Mia’s yearling, Tassas Playgun, was the sale’s high-selling yearling at $60,000. The Playgun filly was purchased by Carroll Baggett of Turkey, NC.

     CD Glamorous Girl brought a bid of $80,000 as the high-selling seasoned cutting horse. The 4-year-old daughter of CD Olena, consigned by Mary Bradford, brought $80,000 from Marshall Chesrown of Coeur D’Alen, ID. CD Glamorous Girl was a finalist in the 2004 NCHA Non-Pro Derby and sold with the owner retaining title and possession until after the finals, when delivery was made. Chesrown purchased six other lots, as well.

     Lil CD Fair was the second highest-selling seasoned cutter at $65,000. The 5-year-old $44,000 winner by CD Olena, sold with an embryo by Duals Blue Boon.  She was consigned by Paula Wood and sold to John Semanik of Jax, FL. Semanik purchased seven other lots during the sale.

     The Bronco Billy Production Sale, part of the 2004 Summer Spectacular Sales, averaged $36,321 on 19 lots, including broodmares, 2-year-olds and yearlings. The high seller was Smart Little Sally, a 14-year-old daughter of Smart Little Lena and full sister to NCHA World Champion, Boon San Lena ($122,000), who brought $135,000 from Marshall Chesrown. She sold with embryos by Peptoboonsmal and Dual Rey.
