I Sho Spensive was the high seller at the 2005 NCHA Super Stakes Sales.  Jon Winkelried of Meeker, Colorado, purchased the daughter of Freckles Fancy Twist for $460,000 from TSR Quarter Horses, Inc. of Woodside, California.


Waco Bend Ranch, owned by Louis Baldwin of Fort Worth, Texas, purchased the 10-year-old Dual Pep broodmare, Dually Sunette and her filly by Smart Little Lena for $187,000 in the TSR Broodmare Dispersal special session of the 2005 NCHA Super Stakes Sales.

 

NCHA Super Stakes Sale one for the record

 The National Cutting Horse Association Super Stakes Sale, managed by Western Bloodstock, broke an all-time record with an average of $19,495 on the sale of 167 horses, at Will Rogers Equestrian Center, April 16 and 17. The highest previous average for the sale, held during the annual NCHA Super Stakes, was $13,916 in 2002.

The top 10 horses sold during the NCHA Super Stakes Sale averaged $137,000; the top 20 averaged $89,825; and the top 50 averaged $49,099.

“It was a great sale,” said Western Bloodstock partner Jim Ware. “And what made the weekend even more special were the accomplishments of Western Bloodstock sale graduates during the NCHA Super Stakes.”

 Fifty percent of the 20 competitors in the NCHA Super Stakes Open Finals were Western Bloodstock sale graduates, including the top six finishers, who earned a total of $454,841, with incentives included. The winner, One Time Pepto, was purchased by current owner Jeffrey Matthews as a yearling, for a record $380,000, during the 2002 NCHA Futurity Preferred Breeders Sale. David and Clare Capps of Weatherford, Texas bred the colt and consigned him to the sale.

 I Sho Spensive, at $460,000, was the high seller of the 2005 NCHA Super Stakes Sales. The 7-year-old show mare, sired by Freckles Fancy Twist, was part of the TSR Quarter Horses Broodmare Dispersal, a special feature held during the sale on April 16. She was purchased by Jon Winkelried, Meeker, Colorado, with an embryo by Dual Rey and exposed to Bet On Me 495 for 2006.

The 15-lot TSR Broodmare Dispersal averaged $84,833 and also included Dually Sunette, at $187,000, and Sneakin Cee, at $156,000. Waco Bend Ranch, owned by Louis Baldwin, Fort Worth, Texas, purchased 10-year-old Dually Sunette, by Dual Pep, with a filly at side by Smart Little Lena and with a paid 2005 breeding to Smart Little Lena.

Black Rock Ranch, owned by Marshall Chesrown, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, bought Sneakin Cee, by Maxi Lena, in foal to Dulces Smart Lena and with a 2005 booking to High Brow Cat.

The second highest selling show horse was Dean Sanders’ consignment of CD Got Lucky, a 6-year-old CD Olena daughter and show mare, who brought $75,000 from J-9 Ranch, Cody, Wyoming.

Teninas First, 1998 APHA World Champion cutting horse, was the high selling stallion at $75,000. The 11-year-old double-registered (AQHA/APHA) Smart Little Lena son was consigned by M5 Performance Bloodstock, agent for Fairmont Farms, Scottsdale, Arizona, and purchased by Earl L. Bimson, Peoria, Arizona.

Codie Cutie and Kitty Cats Mirage each brought $40,000 as the high selling 2-year-old and high selling yearling, respectively. Cody Cutie, a Peptoboonsmal daughter started on cattle by Cutter Jones and consigned by Betsy Mecom Jones, was purchased by Jack Cowan, Payson, Arizona. Kitty Cats Mirage, a filly sired by High Brow Cat, was consigned by Sunrise Ranch, Fayetteville, Arkansas and purchased by Michelle Cowan, Cowan Ranch Inc, Ardmore, Oklahoma.

In addition to open champion One Time Pepto, other Western Bloodstock sales graduates among 2005 NCHA Super Stakes open finalists included Rockin By Choice, ridden by Paul Hansma as reserve champion and Gelding Stakes champion, who sold during the 2003 NCHA Futurity 2-Year-Old In-Training Sale by Rickie Cox to current owners Skip and Elizabeth Queen; third-placed Cowcattin, ridden by Kobie Wood for owners Cotton and Davis, sold by David and Clare Capps in the 2002 Primetime Futurity Sale to Charles Crawley.

Lynx Of Style, Gelding Stakes reserve champion and fourth-placed in the open finals under John Mitchell, was sold by Peter and Nora Stent during the 2002 Primetime Futurity Sales to current owner Slate River Ranch.

Fifth-placed Quintan Blue, ridden by Roger Wagner for Jim Vangilder, sold to Michael Krueger during the 2002 Wichita Ranch Production Sale, managed and conducted by Western Bloodstock associates. Sixth-placed Stylish Curly, ridden by owner Curly Tully, was purchased from Strawn Valley Ranch during the 2003 NCHA Futurity 2-Year-Old In-Training Sale.

Other 2005 NCHA Super Stakes open finalists that passed through Western Bloodstock’s gates were: Outlaw Cat AKA Jack, sold by Waggoner Ranch to Rodney Sharp during the 2002 Primetime Futurity Sale; Stylin Dual, purchased by Steve Henson from Sunrise Ranch during the 2002 Preferred Breeders Sale; Neat Little Cat, sold by Elephant Butte Ranch to Panther Creek Ranch; and Wholly Cats, consigned by Chris and Vicky Benedict to the 2002 Futurity Preferred Breeders Sale.
