Husby results reflect strong market for cutting horses

Husby Cutting Horses Complete Dispersal, held September 26 in Weatherford, Tex., presented a short but stout catalog of 34 horses, plus a 2013 embryo by High Brow Cat and a lifetime breeding to Smooth As A Cat. The sale grossed $928,300, with an average of $42,025 on the top 20 lots, and an overall average of $25,786 on all 36 lots, which included five weanlings.

“It was a good sale and Georgia Husby was pleased with the results,” said Ben Emison of Western Bloodstock, the auction company that managed and produced the event.

The sale topper at $220,000 was Blue One Time. The 5-year-old stallion, by One Time Pepto and out of top show mare and producer Quintan Blue, has earned $212,265 with trainer Clint Allen, who demonstrated him on cattle as he sold to Victor Cattle Company.

Three-year-olds Pepto Smoothy and Overdrive each brought $72,000, the sale’s second-highest price. Pepto Smoothy, a Peptoboonsmal daughter from the female line of leading producer Autumn Boon, was purchased by Center Ranch, Centerville, Tex. Overdrive, a gelded son of Hydrive Cat and three-quarter brother to Clearcut Cat $102,730 and Cat Zahir $41,857, was purchased by Dub and Christy Leeth, Cleburne, Tex.

Eleven-year-old Classy Dualin, by Dualin Jewels, was the high-selling broodmare at $55,000 from Doug Pritchett, Terrell, Tex. The double-bred Lenas Jewel Bars mare sold with an embryo by High Brow Cat and also with one by Hydrive Cat.

Never Reylinquish, a 7-year-old Dual Rey daughter and earner of $78,551, sold for $50,000 to Alvin Fults, Amarillo, Tex., owner of prominent young sire Metallic Cat. A full sister to Neverey $140,594, Never Reylinquish sold with two embryos – one by Smooth As A Cat and one by Hydrive Cat.

Three-year-old South Paws, by High Brow Cat and in training with Clint Allen, sold for $50,000 to Christopher Robinson, Argyle, Tex. Out of Calie Del Rey, by Dual Rey, South Paws is half-sister to Hay Maker $255,000, NCHA Limited Open Futurity Champion.

Who Dat Cat, at $44,000, was the high-selling 2-year-old colt of the sale. The High Brow Cat son out of Never Reylinquish, by Dual Rey, and in training with Gerald Alexander, brought $44,000 from Brad Benson, Monmouth, NJ.
