On September 29, 2025, records soared at the Absolute Dispersal Sale of Teton Ridge Performance Horses. Produced by Western Bloodstock at the Teton Ridge/TR9 Ranch, Weatherford, Texas, the sale began with the $5,600,000 purchase of Lot #1 and maintained its momentum, with total sales of $28,091,500 on all 116 lots, for an average of $242,168, and five lots realizing $1,000,000 or more.
The first drop of the hammer saw Third Edge, 2022 NCHA Horse of the Year and NCHA Derby Open Champion bring a record $5,600,000. The 7-year-old AQHA/APHA red roan stallion, earner of $342,528 , was sired by 2017 NCHA Horse of the Year Metallic Rebel $438,315, sire of earners of $15 million. Dual Rey daughter Lil Rattler LTE $339,414, Third Edge’s dam, is a leading producer of earners of over $1.6 million.
Third Edge, whose oldest foals are yearlings of 2025, was purchased by Ty Smith, Agent for Solo Select, Gainesville, TX.
The sale’s top buyer, taking seven head for $8,043,000 was Rocking P Ranch, LLC of Fort Worth, owned by Bobby Patton. Just ten years ago, Patton entered the performance horse business when he was the top buyer at the dispersal of Alice Walton’s Rocking W Ranch. Since then, he has been a major player in the industry, purchasing leading living sire Metallic Cat, sponsoring the Metallic Cat NCHA Futurity, and offering top bloodlines at regular production sales.
A multi-faceted businessman, Patton is part-owner of Major League Baseball’s 2025 National League West Division Champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers. He is also a member of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission, and a director of the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo.
Rocking P’s top purchase, at $5 million the second-highest seller, was All Spice LTE $571,049, the 2020 NCHA Open Futurity Champion and 2021 NCHA Horse of the Year, whose first two foals are 3-year-olds this year. The Once In A Blu Boon daughter’s sale included an embryo by NCHA Horse of the Year and NCHA Open Futurity Reserve Champion Smooth Talkin Style LTE $305,284.
Smooth Talkin Style, sire of earners of more than $9 million, was the third-highest seller at $2,000,000, from the XIT Ranch and Bosque Ranch, Weatherford, TX.
Rocking P Ranch, also paid the fourth highest price of $1.8 million for 9-year-old Once In A Blu Boon daughter Twice In Santiago LTE $276,587, the 2019 NCHA Open Futurity Reserve Champion and 2020 NCHA Horse of the Year, who came with an embryo by Smooth Talking Style.
Tres Chasin Babe PZ, a BFA earner of $592,448, garnered the sale’s fifth highest price at $1,000,000. The 6-year-old Tres Seis daughter, out of NFR Rodeo Barrel Average Reserve Champion Babe On The Chase LTE $547,238, was purchased by James Probst, Wallsburg, UT.
Other sale highlights included the sale of the top embryo, by Third Edge out of All Spice, by Nora Stent, Carson City, NV, for $450,000; the sale of the top weanling, Yall Aint Ready, by Smooth Talkin Style out of All Spice, by Grant Gardner, Hoover, AL, for $500,000; and the sale of the top yearling, Toospicytohandle, by Smooth Talkin Style out of All Spice, by Dottie and Bobby Hill, Glen Rose, TX, for $500,000.
