Proving There’s No Substitute for Speed, Twice Over: Insane For Fame and I R A Grand Victory Sell.

In back-to-back seasons at the LG Pro Classic Slot Futurity, two chestnut mares turned speed into history. In 2012, Latricia Duke guided Insane For Fame to the Slot title and a $100,000 check. One year later, Mark Bugni and I R A Grand Victory answered with a Slot win of their own and another $100,000 payday. Different pedigrees, same result. These mares prove that once again, there’s no substitute for speed.

Insane For Fame “J Lo”

Insane For Fame (2008, Dash Ta Fame x Insanely Jealous, by Le Tusk) came from an unlikely start. As told in Barrel Horse News, former owner Kristi Schiller recalled that it took time to convince Latricia Duke to take the mare for futurities, but exhibitions changed the conversation. After the 2012 LG Pro Classic Slot win, Barrel Racing Report led with the milestone: “Latricia Duke became the first repeat winner of the $220,000 LG Pro Classic Slot Futurity with a $100,000 victory aboard Insane For Fame.” Duke explained why J Lo fit her hands. “She can run so fast, I don’t have to ask her to be fast. I just have to keep her framed up. I don’t think I kick her until I get around the third barrel. I just try to be as quiet as I can with her.” She added, “She’s really pretty quiet for a Fame mare. She’s got a really good work ethic. She shows up for work every day. She wants to go down the alley. She wants to run barrels.”

The record matches the impression. J Lo placed at two races on the track before she rose to the 2012 LG Pro Classic Slot championship and a run of major checks at events like Ecurie Drummond and the Greg Olson, totaling $159,687. She also earned Open and Youth ROMs and 36 AQHA Level 3 barrel points, capped by the 2017 Reserve High Point Youth Barrel Racing honor.

I R A Grand Victory “Ira”

I R A Grand Victory (2009, CEO x Pure Victory Dash, by Pure D Dash) turned speed into repeatable results. Ridden by Mark Bugni, she won the 2012 BFA World Barrel Super Stakes Open Slot and the 2013 LG Pro Classic Open Slot, delivering two $100,000 checks in the same season and putting Bugni among a select few to do it on one horse. She finished with $214,385 earned and 23 AQHA Level 3 barrel racing points.

Bugni never credited luck. After the LG win he told Barrel Racing Report, “The biggest thing they say is that was a fluke; it was just her lucky night and you’ll never see it again. So when she came in and won that second $100,000 on top of her great qualifying run, she proved she absolutely deserves to win.” He pointed to her temperament as a competitive edge. “This filly has the same grit as her mother; that rodeo personality where if the conditions are tough she just gets tougher.” The way she handled a performance day helped too. “Her sire, CEO, put just enough calmness and steadiness in her personality that she has no issues in the alley. She’s easy to warm up and respectful at the gate.” Years later he summed up her impact in Barrelracing.com with one line. “She was my icebreaker to win an actual title.”

The through line that buyers can bank on

Two consecutive LG Slot champions created a clean bridge between the arena and the breeding barn. J Lo’s speed and work ethic, captured in Duke’s words, are showing up in Epic Leader and Firewaterontherocks offspring that already cash checks. Ira’s grit and settle, underlined by Bugni’s account, are turning into rideable, competitive foals that win at jackpots, age events, and even on the track. Both mares bring proven performance, AQHA point production, and embryos that shorten the timeline from purchase to foal crop.

They sell with no reserve in the Absolute Dispersal Sale of Teton Ridge Performance Horses at TR9 Ranch in Weatherford, Texas on September 29th. If your program is built on results, there’s no substitute for the impact of these two mares.
